I recently sat down with Peter from Bullet, a free online accounting, invoicing and payroll tool, to discuss our trakax products, the importance of video for small businesses and tips for users who are just starting to explore video opportunities. Peter asked some really interesting questions, so it was a really interesting interview. I hope you will find some nuggets of information that you can take away.
Bullet are another Irish company – we use their products and I can testify that they are straightforward and intuitive and definitely worth checking out if you are looking for an easy way to take control of your accounts.
The author, Miguel Leiva-Gomez, is the owner of The Tech Guy blog and has been working with computers and gadgets for more than a decade. In the article, he describes how many businesses are very nervous about venturing into online video and still hold this attitude without realizing the significance of this growing media channel. He confirms the importance of changing this mind-set by stressing “It’s not a question of how you’re going to enter the scene. It’s now a matter of when you’re going to start gathering film equipment, shooting your films, and uploading them“.
Miguel continues by mentioning software programs users can engage with to begin creating their online videos. He decided to compare trakAxPC with the popular Adobe Premier Elements ($99). Firstly, Miguel compares Premier Elements to it’s older brother Adobe Premier and says that it “is more compact and doesn’t contain all of the calamity that the standard version has“.
However, it is only when he begins to compare trakAxPC with Premier Elements that differences become apparent. He declares, trakAxPC “is, honestly, a more intuitive application for use with beginners who want to make something professional, presentable, and noteworthy“. He follows this by confiming, “The learning curve is, in almost every aspect, more simple than that of Adobe’s mammoth software, and has everything you need from a beat synchronizer, automatic crossfading, and picture-in-picture capabilities“.
Finally, Miguel finishes the article by declaring “have a look at some of trakAx’s advice. It might make you a little less timid about getting out there and publishing”. If this isn’t a reason to start creating your online business presence with trakAxPC today, well then, you’re simply missing out on potential new customers and an increase in sales.

We are thrilled that our new trakAxBusiness site got mentioned on the popular small business website, SmallBizTrends.com. Anne Pilon, who wrote the article, said “Online videos can be a great way for businesses to reach out to consumers by showing them how to use their product or service and letting them see the benefits first-hand. But for small businesses that don’t have a huge marketing budget, professional video equipment and expertise might seem out of reach.”
She continues on and says “The multimedia editing software is aimed at users with very basic audio and video editing skills. So users without specialized training can use the software and learn enough skills and techniques from the site to create a professional looking video.”
McDonald’s Canada gambled with a frank question-and-answer-driven social media campaign that has gone on to earn huge publicity and positive reviews. Here, the CMO behind the campaign explains how and why the transparent approach worked.
McDonalds took customers’ questions – some unpleasant- and made videos to give frank answers. See an example below or you can view all of them at the McDonalds YouTube channel:
This video campaign is really interesting on many levels. Firstly by using real McDonalds employees and suppliers, they have created really believable and trustworthy advocates for the brands. Secondly by using video to show the “behind the scenes” footage gives McDonalds the air of transparency and a “nothing to hide” attitude – something that text or brochures simply couldn’t do. Thirdly the interactive nature of the campaign, leveraging social media to both gather the questions and disseminate the answers, is really fun.
However, what I found most interesting is that any business could take elements of this campaign and tailor it to their marketing needs. All you need is a camera, tripod, mic and some simple editing software. Are you in a business where users are confused or intimidated by technical or scientific language / terms / equipment? Perhaps you work in an industry that has garnered bad press for certain practices? Or maybe you simply get asked the same questions over and over again about your business? Having a video on your homepage/Facebook page explaining the problem in a simple, honest and straightforward manner could be the solution to a problem that you have been avoiding.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
